How-to-get AC3 w/ the Coolsat
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
= = = = = How to process a CL w/ AC3 for a Coolsat + or Pro = = = = = =
This is a “how-to-do-it”. It’s not that hard but there’s a lot of mouse clicking that needs to be done.
Best way to start is with a CL that been run through CM (1.3.2b). Before leaving CM, sort the channels, add SID data, add AC3 data and lastly TID/NID data. Save the file in NDF format. I would recommend that you sort the channels using “SID” before exiting the CM program.
Open it NDFEdit and do the following for EVERY channel that you want to receive AC3. In the following, I will use “HBO East” as the example.
1) Select a satellite: Echo 7/Ku
2) Select a transponder, TP, 12.239 H
3) Find “HBO East” on this TP.
4) Click on the box that says “Don’t update Video/Audio PID
s”
5) Now click “More Audio . .“ box
6) A dialog box opens and shows the following.
PID --------------------Lang-------------------Enc
0x1123
0x1124
0x1125
Make the following changes. Note there is some latitude in the order:
---- You can move the last Audio PID (0x1125) to be in the middle placing the 2nd Audio PID (0x1124) at the end. Personally I prefer the ‘standard’ method of placing the Audio PIDs in the order shown above. It doesn’t make any difference to the way it operates, so either method is ok.
So now make these changes using the “ADD”, “MODIFY” and “DELETE” buttons:
PID --------------------Lang-------------------Enc
0x1123 ----------------ENG
0x1124 ----------------SPA
0x1125 ----------------ENG-------------------AC3
Again there’s some latitude here; you do NOT have to label the “AC3” PID with “ENG”. When the CL is loaded into the CS, it will display “UNKNOWN” if you leave it blank.
I have used the format in my CL as shown
above. When loaded into the CS, it displays “3:ENGLISH” when AC3 is selected – or – “2:ENGLISH” for those channels that only have two (2) entries.
So now you must do this for every AC3 channel you want to ‘fix’. Don't forget to check the "Don't update Audio/Video PIDs" box otherwise AC3 won't work! As you work through the channels, suggest that you save your CL periodically as you work.
Now you have completed the CL, so now you need to sort it. If you sorted it in CM, you have a leg up but NDFEdit will sort easily.
Here’s what you do. With the CL open in NDFEdit, click on the “CHANNEL LIST” box icon. It’s the farthest box in the second row of the toolbar. After doing this, a complete listing of each channel is displayed in a separate window.
SORTING:
To sort the channel list, make sure the “ALL SATELLITES” option is showing in the window. Now double-click in the "NAME" tab to sort “ascending”; do the same again and it will sort “descending”. Now, do this forEVERY sub
category in your CL, including each satellite, and each favorite category. When complete, save the CL.
When done, the CL will be sorted properly and when D/L into the CS, all categories will show as sorted in an ascending manner. For my CL, I always use a SID sort, so performing the above procedure sorts my channels in an ascending numerical order and this sorts each channel into DN order.
If you don’t use “SID”, then they will sort alphabetically, not a very good idea.
To download the complete CL, use BL_Tools_V1.5 selecting the “channels” option.
Once the CL is loaded, select a channel; I'll use HBO East as the example. Once selected, press the "GREEN" button on the remote; you will see a dialog box on the screen. Scroll to the "Audio Track" and select "3:English".
In my CL, “1:ENGLISH” is always ‘mono’ audio and that is where it defaults when the 'green' pb is pressed. Then using the right or left “arrow” buttons, scroll to select “3:ENGLISH” using HBO East
as the example.
If you have connected a coax cable (RCA) from the SPDIF output on the CS to your receiver/amplifier, you will get DD5.1 assuming the HBO is broadcasting a program w/ DD5.1. If not, there will be "nothing", no sound other than audio leakage. But since most programs are broadcast in DD5.1, your receiver will indicate it. Yes, IT DOES WORK!!
Enjoy your AC3 . . ..
