hello geeks , i bought an nfusion 2day, after reading everything i could, i managed to sucessfully load my new bin , while following the step by step

i am using a homeplug powerline networking kit(made by iogear) these units plug into 110 and one cable goes to the internet connection , of course one goes to the stb (simulates hard wire i guess) its not a wireless device

in the instructions for the homeplus it says to plug one end to the ethernet plug on my computer , here's where i am kind dumb

i have my internet plugged into that spot via a wireless router
(lynksys2.4ghz wrt54gs)

i assume i maybe should plug it into the back of the router but i dont think it actually working(cables hooked up but have not been able to pick up a wireless signal for awhile now , just kinda forgot about it)

someone else hooked up my wireless router so im kinda confused here

anyone know what i am talking about , i could sure use your help

also the device said that when it was working it will idicate with a internet connection message in the toolbar , i have not seen anything

thanks

You were correct in your first post, connect one to STB, one to router. Once you have everything connected, remove power from router for 10 seconds and then reconnect. Your router should then give an IP to the Homeplug unit. That should then connect to the STB. Make sure that your STB is set for DHCP. If it does not get a red light right away, force it to request an IP by rebooting it.

i dont think my router was actually working i have now removed it all together , how else can i do this without the router?

cheers man for the help

You need the router to get multiple devices to run from one IP. Only other way (without router) is to make sure you can get two IP's from provider and use a switch. You are way better off with the router, though.

i'll get a new router tommorow and try that , this one seems to be pooched ,

i did try to do what u earlier suggested but when the router is in play i get no int connection at all no matter what i unplug or disconnect for how long!!!

thanks again , i'll report back when get this part figured out

thanks again friendly bear

cheers

One more thing, if you have internet through a provider (eg. telus, bellsouth) that requires a mac address to be registered you will have to either register the router mac or spoof your computers mac to the router.

if you were on the internet using your other router then its not pouched.

don't waste your money yet. hook it back up and run an ethernet cable from the router to the nfusion.

if you were on the internet using your other router then its not pouched.

don't waste your money yet. hook it back up and run an ethernet cable from the router to the nfusion.

that would be a long ethernet cable (150 ft) , when i plug in my homelink bridge it doesnt pick up my ip or anything on the stb , so i dont think its workin,

i have run the one ethernet cable from the router out to the homelink
i have the other run into my stb all through the 110 in the house

i was messin arround with network majic for two days now and when i tried to setup a new network it set my router was only set up for hard wire connections wtf

i have no clue , been readin for days

any ideas where i can get the info to self teach myself ?

also my add that i have only had this pc a few months now , the router is still the same as last pc that crashed , wonderin if i have to have a wireless card installed in one of the slots on my pc , im not very computer literate , but i know a little, this new pc was built by a tech wizard , so i hope i have the needed hardware

snaponron
03-22-2008, 11:06 PM
k i think im getting more and more messed up , maybe i dont even need to set up a wireless network , just the router , is this true?

the red light is on ........on my stb , whick i think means iks is activated and working

i have no ip sub mask or gateway info just remote server ip

snaponron
03-22-2008, 11:21 PM

Just my 2 cents - did u try to flip back and forth main switch behind stb now after u went thru all of that things?
Mine is working...

snaponron
03-23-2008, 11:16 AM
yup i have many times and yes 3 minutes ago again

skybliss
03-23-2008, 11:22 AM
Snap, don't throw it away yet, it works well just something is wrong with setup.
I had that a$$pain too...
Internet settings: what it says?

snaponron
03-23-2008, 11:28 AM
it says ........i-off/n-on/p-off/emu off

i have no ip
no subnet mask
no gateway
there is numbers in the remote ip

skybliss
03-23-2008, 11:33 AM
It means you have no internet connections for now...
Did u try also flip on/off the router???
U must wait at least 30 sec before switching it on. SAME thing with stb!!!
Here is the setup: stb-user settings- dolby off, emulator off, autoroll on, primary channel bev or d---sh
stb - system settings- TP ch auto update -on
stb- internet-network on, auto update check on, proxy connection off

skybliss
03-23-2008, 11:34 AM
Internet MUST be on!!!

snaponron
03-23-2008, 11:34 AM
ill go do that exactly and come back

snaponron
03-23-2008, 11:43 AM
ok my settings are the same exactly

i understand my internet must be on , how do i do that

network is on

also unplugged both for two min

skybliss
03-23-2008, 11:53 AM
As i see you run wireless, that's maybe the prob now...
Why you can't try strait cable from router to stb?
Explain it...

snaponron
03-23-2008, 11:54 AM
cuz its 50ft away

snaponron
03-23-2008, 11:59 AM
um now im confused , i understand that if you cant run the cable directly(hard wired)
you must set up a wireless network!!! done ...... my cat5 cable comes out of the router plugged into a homelink bridge , other end is run from homelink(plugged in) to stb
it appears iks is on cuz that red light is on(which will help in the aiming part when i get out my 12 guage)

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:00 PM
Shit!!!! Only the possibility to check that u need to get it done thru the cable.
I got one for me from home depot. There it is much cheaper than radio shack.
Or i can give u even better option if u can borrow it from someone or buy from monoprice.com Sure u need it longer then 50, maybe 75 feet.
Have patience and u will see. Monoprice is just incredible with prices.
Let me know what u do.

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:03 PM
When i was typing u just sent out one more post.
That's the only way cause u plugged in the bridge link
,

snaponron
03-23-2008, 12:06 PM
and if i could run it directly what would that tell me ? that my nfusion is working fine?

its clear to me now , maybe i'll run 24 volts thru it and give it a kick start:rolleyes:

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:06 PM
Maybe it is possible that the parts just too far away from each other and the signal is week.

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:07 PM
and if i could run it directly what woulf that tell me ? that my nfusion is working fine?

its clear to me now , maybe i'll run 24 volts thru it and give it a kick start:rolleyes:

No-no, don't do that,lol.....:eek::eek::eek::eek:
U just need to run straight

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:09 PM
After u confirm that u got internet ON, then u can play around with it, mean that stb is working and u see tv

snaponron
03-23-2008, 12:09 PM
Maybe it is possible that the parts just too far away from each other and the signal is week.

the two homelinks are less than 30 ft (direct) and the cat5 cables are only 3 ft long so i cant be any closer

snaponron
03-23-2008, 12:12 PM
After u confirm that u got internet ON, then u can play around with it, mean that stb is working and u see tv

ok i understand that part , but if my red light is on does that not mean that iks is on and that the connection is there?

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:17 PM
It seems that u need to get rid of the homelink or replace it with better quality.
Listen, i was in your shoes before too and feel ur pain, that's why i help ya.
Right now it's homelinks, something is wrong with them,(setup maybe) check it away if ya can

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:19 PM
ok i understand that part , but if my red light is on does that not mean that iks is on and that the connection is there?
I think that when red light is on there is no signal from internet or something else. When my is working there is no red light on!!!
Ooops!!! Red is on!!!

snaponron
03-23-2008, 12:23 PM
I think that when red light is on there is no signal from internet or something else. When my is working there is no red light on!!!

first of all thank -you for taking the time to help me , you rock!~

but i have read many times that the red light means you have iks

is this not true?:noclue:

snaponron
03-23-2008, 12:29 PM
ok i give up , i will go to home depot , what do i need? just a 50 ft ethernet cable , do they sell them that long or do they make it? and maybe i can buy a very big hammer as well lol:cool:

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:30 PM
Okay, to tell ya the truth, right now i use coolsat6000 and my fusion is off.
When i cant see tv on cs i plug in fusion. that way i have tv all the time.
U know, last time i saw it it was off and working.
But it's irrelevant now...for ya.... To be sure u must try straight connection.
Sorry for that.
I suggest one more way: try to take your laptop if u have one to that place whrer ur stb is now and see if u got it working wireless. GOT it???

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:32 PM
Try to measure up the distance - corners, bents and it sure adds up. Take at least 75" They have even longer, i saw it in the store. No hammer yet,

snaponron
03-23-2008, 12:33 PM
yes i do have a laptop and i will try that too also i have a wireless aircard also so i can be sure of the connection , good idea skybliss thanks again

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:35 PM
U are welcome, man

skybliss
03-23-2008, 12:40 PM
One more point, if u do use aircard, try to set it picking up the signal from homelinks,
NOT other way around!!!

skybliss
03-23-2008, 01:33 PM
Yes, red light must be ON when all is good. Sorry for misinfo, sometimes it's hard to see from angle position in my room.

snaponron
03-23-2008, 04:36 PM
hey sky bliss i am happy to report that my box is up and running awesome

skybliss
03-23-2008, 05:03 PM
