So just a couple questions. Is it difficult to convert the Extreme to a Homesat? How do you program the TSOP once it is pulled? Just curious, have many of you done it? And how does it work? Thanks.:(

well you need a chip programmer once the chip has been pulled.... not cheap to buy unless you can find somebody that already has one .... as for how it works...well good as a homesat as it becomes a homesat...not a clone of a homesat but the real deal... and yes support is slow for them as well

As an option, there is an ebay store that does this kind of thing. Search for
ARIZA XTREME CONVERSION TO HOMESAT TSOP CHIP REPAIR
I am in no way affiliated with this person but I did come across it and thinking about doing it myself.

man is an $80 box with poor support really worth that? Maybe, if he lives next door!!! But if you have to pay shipping two ways then you just spent $40 in shipping and get a box back with still poor support and same issues the extreme always had... like poor epg and red light syndrome.
Save your $$$ put the cost of having it modified towards a different box. Since most people do not have the soldering skills required it is simply not worth it.

VERY Well said and by many others as well, I am keeping mine just in case some one like JVVH or Fwank7 comes up with a way to convert this box to a more reliable source of support like was done with the 2500A, other than that I use it as a clock.

Seems like the better buy since I can't afford the cost of a new box. 19.99 for the chip, and I do the job myself. Sure, not everyone has the skills to perform this hack and the support is slow, but anything is better than no support at all, agreed?

the receivers are so cheep today that some of them are under $70. so i say to the ariza extreme owners don't bother with converting to homesat the support is not all that great, and you will be spending you hard earned dollars for what, and with the card exchange going on whats going to happen in the near future, over in Europe they are now on nagra 3 will our receivers be able to take nagra 3 ????????????????????

it's already costing money now you have to buy a heat gun and then you have to buy a chip and than you have to hope you don't f--k it up when you install the tsop so i say to all is this really worth it and with nagra 3 coming on line who knows what is going to happen, over in europe most of the receivers are down because of the new security system that in place, and it wont be long before it hit us in north America. if you don't believe go to www.sat **** .net and see for yourselves. so right now i do not think it is a good time to buy a new receiver as many of you have seen they have dropped in price and it looks like they want to sell as many as possible so they don't get stuck with them, look back 4 years ago when they were selling p4 cards they sold as many as possible nowing they would never work so many of us got stuck with the p4 cards and i still have one never used still new. just my two cents worth.

it`scheaper to convert and easy than buying a new reciever, and by the way it`s called testing,it`s really simple to change the chip heat gun 12.00 chip 20.00,using your new homesat priceless,u cant go wrong spending 30 box and watching tv with your new homesat instead of having a door stop,it will take you about ten minutes to change the chip and load homesat file,it1s all about testing, have some fun,if u messed it up,hey it was a door stop anyway, give it a shot and enjoy

Seems like I heard all this gloom and doom before N2 was released. We were down like 3 days. If you don`t like testing, get a sub.

The N2 blackout was a lot longer than 3 days... it was more like 6-10 weeks before the fixes started floating out depending on the model... believe me I know! Myself and every other staff member who was here at that time answered the same question a hundred times a day..... "anything new?"
Expect initial Nag3 to be longer than Nag2 before being solved as it more complicated to begin. That is the reason for the card swap to begin with

The Xtreme attracted a lot of fans. It did, IMO, have a lot better picture quality than the "fast-fix" boxes of today. It's worth a buck or two, and a little work to get an Xtreme running...it's a matter of pride!

So when should I expect Nag3?

Just two cents worth here, I know that spending money may be a waste but I do really injoy doing what alot of other people do. Simply testing, it might be stupid but I kinda like seeing if I can figure things out like this. And sure you might waste a few bucks but have fun testing. just my thoughts

Better yet, we do it now without a new chip, just lift the existing chip errase and flash. No new chip required.

Same here. I don't have the patience to remove chips and replace them.
Maybe some day soon somebody will find a way to flash them while they are still installed.

Wish we could, we've been looking at how for a long time. Maybe we just look to hard. If chip can be errased removed, why not by lifting a couple of pins. Fried to many boxes to care anymore.

I have a question (even though I'm already pretty sure the answer is no). Is there any other thing that Ariza Xtreme can be converted into? For example, can it be converted into a CoolSat 6100 or a SonicView or any other type besides Homesat? Also, is Homesat currently working, if yes, when was the last time it was down? How long was it down for? And finally, how slow are we talking about for the fixes to come in when it goes down (for instance, if the boxes went down on March 1, & CoolSat 6100 released a fix for it on March 3, when would u say Homesat will release a fix for it's box)?
One more thing, is the Xtreme still up with DN? Is it still down with B3V? Roughly, when did it come back for DN?
Thx for the help in advance.

Homesat the only conversion lossible. Files are released within 24 / 48 hours. Check file section and see for yourself. Working both providers right now.
Is it worth it, it's up to you. This is a game and we don't know what will survive for how long.
The 10 bucks, plus shipping is your call.
DN up on everything as they have made there signal wide open .

Hi, just to continue the topic, after extreme converted to homesat, do we use exactly the same files and file loader as those for no-clone homesat receivers? Thanks!

Hey truck............sounds like you're talking of the same chap that did my conversion. Out in BC, on the island? If so, he does quick work and cheaply too. He went out and bought the reprogrammer himself, and now he's simply trying to make his cost back and help out members at a reasonable price. $10 CAD for the conversion, and shipping both ways and we're good to go. ($30 altogether) Still have the high quality pix of the Xtreme and support seems like it's hanging tuff.
Good deal for anyone looking at making that doorstop into a working STB....cheaply.
Cheers gin ;)

Sounds some what good, just need to figure out the freight. Does it still take an hour and change to scan 3 birds or has that been fixed as well with Homesat?

Haven't had mine hooked up since the last hit What I was reffering to is when scanning the birds, the Xtreme was always slooowww and would take aro 10 - 15 minuits per sat. Still does this or has the scanning improved?
Have the addy for the dude in BC?

Everything works the same as the original box. Same scan time for sats, same channel changes, same picture, but you get Picture In Graphics when browsing the EPG and a few not so useful options. The upside is you get support :D

The Homesat has a little funny way of scanning better, instead of 10 mins. it can scan in around 5 to 7. No biggy i know but i should post it. Almost like blind scanning with the fctory file which takes about 2 minutes per sat. Actually it's the same type of scan but not many played with the Xtreme, just complained about the scanning. Anyways i know, STF up right.
