I have an pariza 700 that has just started to "hummm". I cracked the case open and it seems the the humming is either coming from one of the coils on the yellow board. (grp-gl0230 or the lf-026dd). Problem is that i dont know what these do. Other than the noise the qaulity has dropped completly off. I have played around with the boards a little and managed to get the quality to jump up to 98% (where it should be) but it only jumps up for a breif second then drops off. Is there anyone that can help me out. I know first of all that the thing is not worth fixing but i am in this for the challenge right now and i think that i may have finally killed one of these boxes (would that make me the first?LOL)
Second question is how the hell to test these coils?
Any help is appreciated.

I think that coil(GL0230) is the transformer and the other component might be the filter cap of the power supply? Maybe even part of the voltage regulator circuit? If it is buzzing then something is wrong(duh) causeing that component to overload? Humming is probably a 60 cycle line noise being amplified? Have you done the display mod? What is showing on the display? Does the unit still work(pictures, menu, etc.) but buzzes. Did this happen after flashing the latest update? If you did the display mod is it possible a wire came off and is shorting something out? Did you have to do the "Jumper wire" to get both polarities? Just throwing out some ideas. The tuners in these boxes use to run hot with the old you know files in them. These things were preety tough for a cheap box! Power transformer could just be going out? p.s. Just got to thinking it might not be a bad idea to check your connections and if you had a spare LNB try that? GOOD LUCK!

ok so i have done the conversion of the display and it is looking fine showing time and channel number no problem. No jumper wire was required to get the h and v frequencies. All solder points are still snug and secure with no trace of solder melt over onto another pin or pad. All menu options and screens work fine. Picture still looks as it always has (hasn't lost anything thank god LOL) Connections are all good when i connect the vs ultra to it (sig-86 and Q-80-98)

If the unit is still working I'd ride it as long as you can! If the noisy parts aren't makeing excessive heat and causeing a breakdown of other componenets then something else may be starting to fail? Choke coils can make noise sometimes but it's usually a high pitched whine like a whistle. Usually goes away after component warms up. I've got an Advent TV that does that when first turned on. Developed the noise over time but set works fine. The windings of the coils litterally do vibrate but are normally dampened from the insulation on the windings being wrapped together as well as how the coil is mounted. Is it possible the noise is comeing from the ferite noise suppressor on the line in which is right in between the 2 components you listed?
