To all.
Is there anybody who can record off the epg???? I go into the epg, select the program I want to watch, hit the green button, the timed event screen appears,I hit OK and then exit. The selected program turns dark blue in the epg.I go to the MENU>CHANNEL MANAGER>TIMER>EVENT TIMER and there it is: The program I want to record at a later time. The start time/end time date and time correct. I patiently wait till record time: The receiver changes to the selected channel( I changed the channel on purpose to see if it changed to the right channel) BUT IT DOESN'T RECORD THE CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone have any suggestions; I have read all the threads on how to set up the hard drive and I thank all of you for your inputs
I can record if I hit the red button but I thought the advantage of this receiver was to be able to do timed recording?? Maybe I'm wrong
Thanks All,
J

Make sure you set the date correctly: month first and then the date (MM/DD).

Not sure if 800 is like 600p or 700, but on these, it is under menu>channel manager> timer. Too bad tv is down as of 4:00pm though!

it should, depending where you are located as well, make sure summer is switched on, if you observe daylight savings time

I read something in a CNX forum elsewhere. Some guy was asking a question about buying a bunch of CW800S to replace the about to be phased out Coolsats. The question was asked in the Captiveworks section of th forum. A whole sleuth of guys bashed the heck out of the CW800S saying that the EPG in the CW800S is not reliable and unfitted to be used for recording. Of course, most of them are CNX owners and moderators. I don't think that it is that bad for what I can see so far after having it for a week.
To avoid any problem, I just find out either using the EPG or the TV guide to find what time the program is coming on and set the time according to that. I have done that twice and don't have any problem.
The CW800S is really worth the money, the PVR works as they advertised.

Which time are you talking about?

jule in have a cw800 and i record all the time with time shifting and i had done it with no problems. if u schedule a channel to record when its time to record the bx turns to that channel and starts recording by itself. now if u change the channel from the one ur recording to another channel it wont record the channel u scheduled the first time. if u want to record one channel and see another u will need a bx with dual tuner to do that.

Thanks for your replies.
In order to enter the date correctly MM/DD I have yo go to the manual time setting: set the time and the date.
In order to observe DST I have to choose auto in the time settings,If I choose auto I can not change the date to MM/DD. It shows DD/MM.
When I change the date manually MM/DD my EPG on the top line shows a DAY corresponding to DD/MM. I changed the date to 04/10 and the day showed TUE whicd is the day for Nov 4th.
I have tried everything known to man with no luck.Am I the only one who can't record of the EGP???
Maybe I have a bad box?
Is there anything in the system settings I need to change?
I'm really at the end of my rope.
Thanks again,
J

I would try to re-load the current bin and make sure that your HD is formated with the Captiveworks 800s.

I could never get the hard drive formatted by the receiver. It came fat32.

Use Windows built-in utility to format. I am using Windows XP, I was able to format it in NTFS and it works. CW800S supports both NTFS and fat32 formatting.

Ok. what is the difference in the format and WSKSer can you do the timed recording of the epg?? By the way I'm trying to re-format the hard drive with the cw800 and so far it has taken 6hrs and it still going!
Have no idea if it is working since nothing is happening on my tv screen or on the receiver.I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

You can time record on the channel you want, I don't think the CW800 can use the EPG to set up recording. The Visionsat IV200 has that feature, just scroll the time and channel on the EPG and press the record button on the remote. It will mark it and recording the program when the time comes and ends when the program ends.
I think there is something wrong even with a large 500gb drive, it should not take 6 hours and still going. Since you have an Iomega drive now, you can go to the Iomega website to download their fat32 formatter. If you have any problem finding it, please let me know. I may a copy somewhere in my back up drive.
