u have to use both the USB serial adapater and the null modem cable that came with ur Viewsat!
the adapter hooks to ur USB on ur PC
then the null modem cable (female end) hooks to USB adapter & receiver...
if u read the thread that Centauri linked u ...u would have understood it by now!
heres the link again... http://www.dssgeeks.com/forums/usb-serial-com-t29127/index.html

Read all the Posts in that Link I sent you. Its pretty complete when it comes to USB-Serial understanding
guys i looked through my electrical equipment and i found:
1. a USB to SERIAL 9pin cable that fits
2. and a FEMALE to FEMALE Serial cable
there is one problem ....the serial cable wasn't in any packaging it doesn't say if it's null or strtaight through any ways to check that...it only has the brand name which id DBX...
Is there any harm in trying to load the file to my receiver if it turns out not to be null.
THANKS for ALL THE HELp guys

Won't hurt anything, but if you have a metre you can check it by this diagram.
i tried to download the pgm file DBPSW-080410P.PGM to my receiver but it kept popping up....... (ERROR) DOWNLOAD......please help and i am still using the serial cable which i don't know if it's null or not.....plus i am using a USB to male SERIAL adapter and i downloaded the driver from Kronic and followed all his instructions to installing the driver setting the com port etc...
THANKS if anyonee can help

First off, make certain that usb-serial cable will work with FTA. Not all do. Also make certain your other cable is NuLL. Thats up to you to find out. Bring it in to a computer store and ask.
Also:
Have you tried the Control Panel thing like I posted in that link?
specifically what kind of null cable do u need for viewsat vs2000 platinum....because i dodn't get one with the receiver...
thanks

If you didn't get one with your receiver then you will have to buy one, make sure that it says null and not straight.

You need a null cable with the right male/female configuration.
when i plug in my viewsat vs2000 platinum to my PC like this:
PC---USB to SERIAL RS232----female/female serial cable----VIEWSAT
I don't know if the serial cable is a null or not because i did not receive one with my receiver.......
when i plug everything up and try to download the PGM file onto the receiver...it keeps trying to send it but it never does..i know my usb com ports and stuff is set up right because i followed the guide someone else posted....IS the serial female/female cable the problem????when i try to send the file to my receiver the number 0 comes up on it....does that mean that it's detecting it and there is nothing wrong with the cables....please help i don't know what will help getting new cable or is something else the problem??
please HELP
THANKS

1) Your usb-serial should be usb on one end and male serial on the other end.
2) Your Null Modem cable should be female serial on both ends
Null modem cables are cheap bud. Go to the computer store and ask the guy for that cable exactly and he will know which cable to get.
If it still won't work then perhaps your usb-serial cable is the wrong one. Remember like I stated in that other thread:
Not all usb-serials are compatible with FTA.
