Mac loading how to
C&P FROM ANOTHER SITE !!!!!!
Loader programs are usually made for PCs. This how-to is for Mac users who want to flash their box with latest pgm files and don't want to go through hassle of running VirtualPC or Bootcamp with Windows. These steps were done using a Viewsat PVR 7000 and ZTerm 1.1b7 for MacOS 9. I'm not a heavy Mac user but have an old PPC5400 (MacOS 9.1) lying around so decided to put it to some use (if this box can flash, then any PPC or later should). Macs do not have serial ports that PCs do, so a USB-serial adapter is needed (assuming Mac is USB-equipped as most current ones are) with appropriate Mac drivers installed. Theoretically these steps can be replicated on other receiver models.
Programs needed
*Download ZTerm 1.1b7 for OSX only
OR
*Download ZTerm 1.1b7 for MacOS 8/9 only (PowerPC only)
AND
*Latest pgm file for respective receiver model
ZTerm support site
homepage.macdotcom/dalverson/zterm/
Hardware needed
*USB-equipped Mac
*USB-serial adapter with Mac drivers
*null modem cable
*receiver
Steps to configure ZTerm
1. Connect the USB-serial adapter to Mac and open up ZTerm, select USB-serial option on prompt and go to Settings>Connection
2. Change Data Rate to 115200 and uncheck Xon/Xoff as shown below
3. Go to Settings>Transfer Options
4. Make sure Send/Receive set to ZModem and Sent Filenames set to "Send Unmodified"
5. Now go to File>Transfer Convert and select "Binary Data"
You can save these settings by going to menu Dial>Save Setup. Now whenever the USB cable is connected, ZTerm will open up saved settings on startup. You are now ready to flash the receiver.
Steps to Flashing
1. Make sure correct null modem cable is connected to receiver and adapter. Receiver must also be powered off with back switch. In ZTerm go to menu File>Send Files>ZModem and find the pgm file to load to receiver
*You can also just choose File>Send ZModem as shortcut
2. When status window pops up, turn receiver's back switch ON and let transfer complete.
3. Let receiver go through writing process and wait till it shows END before powering off.
Besides pgm files you can also flash opkey files, channel lists, and sat files but individually at time. You can also receive files by setting ZTerm to "Receive ZModem". There's not much point to receiving files if you don't have the PC programs (Channel Master) that can open/edit them other than backing up receiver files.
As comparison it took me little over 4 minutes to transfer the file which is equivalent to using my PC. If you can get this process to work with other receiver models please post so others can know. Thanks for reading and good luck.
