I'm looking to add an external hard drive to my Sonicview 8000. I would like it to record programs and movies. I would apericate any suggestion such as Brand, GB, or what ever else you think would help. Also I have the Hd board upgrade So I suspose it should be HD? THANKS in advance for your input & time. :noclue:

I was wondering about that as well as I bought an external hard drive and when i plug it in my sonic view does not recognize it. It will read my usb when I load new bins, but will not read my external drive for me to record. Any help or suggestions is always appreciated

a) 2 different guys I installed dishes for, each (coincidentally) use a 500Gb Lacie ext.drive.
and
2. For "recognition" issues, format/partition may be necessary- do a google search for "SwissKnife" a useful utility.

i do know you dont want a hard drive that has built in sleep mode , i've seen that all over the net
also this is from Sonicview
What brand of hard drive will work with the HD8000?
Most external hard drives up to 500 GB will work. Make sure it is formatted to FAT32.
What size external hard drive is best for the HD8000?
For standard-definition programming, you can record roughly one hour per one GB; so a
250 GB hard drive will record 250 hours. For high-definition, 250 GB will record about
30 hours, and 500 GB will record about 60 hours of programs.
hope this helps some

Yes this does help. I have been looking at a Seagate 750GB FreeAgent. Now how would I connect it. The seagate has a 2.0 usb. I looked at the owners manual of the SV-HD8000 and it dose not have one in the back only in front is that the one I would use?
