I am using a PC for the programing.I do have the null modem cable, but it was bought as my receiver did not come with one. Also I've tried both programs the all in one and the viewsat one as well and they do the same thing.Could this be a issue with my receiver.

is the usb to serial adapter drivers installed?
Are you using the right comport?
Are you 100% sure you have a null cable?
vince_lazio

yes the drivers are installed
yes the com port is accurate
and a null modem is a male to male cable if so then yes

A null cable can be male to male, female to female, etc
Just because you have a male to male cable going from the viewsat to your usb adapter does not mean it is a null cable.
Null modem cables and straight thru cables look exactly the same on the outside but are totally different on the inside where it matters.

If the USB-Serial cable is the reason and it usually is, Read through this link below and your answer will be there:
http://www.dssgeeks.com/forums/usb-serial-com-t29127/index.html
Not all USB-Serial cables are the same. Many will NOT work with FTA and I put some example cables that will work in that link above.
Could your Null modem cable be damaged?
Ya never know man :noclue:
Have you tried rebooting your Computer and try again?
Has worked for many here in the past.

use the cable u get with the set.u might have the wrong cable as my friend has a platinum and the cable has holes on both ends Not sure what is male to male or vice versa but both ends have 9 holes not pins,Go to a viewsat dealer and verify or ask a pal with a working one to try it

i have a feeling u have a straight serial cable... not null modem...
call it a hunch
when u go to the store u have to ask for NULL MODEM Serial cable specifically... unless whoever sold u the cable don't know whats the difference

since ur in Canada...
u can go to Best buy
or a computer store ...but make sure they know whats the difference...
ask them that technical question: whats the difference between straight & null modem?
answer should be ... no difference in physical look... but null modem has crossed pins ;)
nothing worse than a kid selling computer stuff without knowing what the hell hes talkin about:D
also some of our sponsors carry it...
if u live in the GTA area Ontario... worldwide satellites carry it ...so u can get it in store... http://www.worldwidesatellites.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=24_75

Did you turn the STB off and on from the backswitch when you hit PC to STB
Marcella

Turn off using back switch. Then once you have connected your cable and selected file to load, you click on pc to stb and then you turn on your stb using the back switch. Once loaded wait, wait, wait until your stb totaly reboots.

cut it open and have pin 2 go to pin3 on the other side and vice versa with the pin 3 on the same side going to pin 2 on the other.......
instant null....
leave all the other wires matched up as is....

Male to male does not mean it is a null modem cable...you have to be sure

I'm going with drivers not installed for usb adapter..I looked at your pics and they mean nothing in the sense I can get mine to give those readings by changing a com port..you are definately not able to transfer do to,null cable issue(defective),usb adapter(defective, not compatible,or drivers not installed). With my laptop it took me a while to finally get the adapter up and running and on my desktop was easy with the null cable..Try not to get too frustrated and it will all come together for you I'm sure..
The adapter I use I picked up at Bet Buy: :D USB-Sreial Converter
Model No:U209-000-R
It was in such a small box I didn't notice the mini software disc inside for 2-3days...Needless to say, once I loaded it's drivers I glued my hair back in place:rolleyes:
Good-luck!!

 simply:a male end will always insert into a female end,
anything with pins, prongs, etc would be male;)
likewise any holes or voids or slots that one or more of the above noted would be insered into would be female:p
I hope that helps you wamba,or at least makes you giggle:D
