My Captain 8000 is stuck. The only button that works is the power botton. I've unplugged it but nothing changes. Even with the power off the blue light on the front is on. I had been inputting the latest bin and in the process of scanning channels and it froze on 1838..I think?

Power off back switch. Load factory file.. Check after loading if the front button turns off unit.

Nothing will work on the receiver. I can plug in the USB stick but nothing happens...I can't change channels, go to menu pages...nothing. The blue light is on in the front as if it is on..even when the unit is off. I've powered on and off and it goes to channel 1834 I think? and shows nothing. I've had it for about 5 months...does this thing have a warranty?

I've powered on and off
Do you mean using the remote or from the back of the unit??

using the cable that came with the captain,
download the app7710 .
than hook up to tv and set the settings and scan the satelite.
after that using usb stick load the latest bin.
you might also if above don't work, after the satelite scan
put-in the 619 bin, and then the latest bin.
report back if worked.
good luck!

I had my Captain 7100 replaced under warranty by Captain after 4 months use. Contact the manufacterer at captainfta.com. They have a file that you load through the Null Modem cable to try and get it out of "boot".

It's not a serial cable, it's a null cable. Damn.

I tried downloading the factory bin with null cable and it went through the process but when I hooked up to the TV it made no difference. It is still locked on one channel and the only thing I can do (with the remote or buttons on the receiver) is power on and off. The strange thing is that even with it shutt off (power switch at the back on) the blue light on the front stay on which usually indicates that the receiver is on.
I could send it in to the manufacturer but I think it's a software problem....any ideas?
