View Full Version : No strength or quality on 119

I have D*sh 500 poined at 110 & 119 with dual legacy LNB's. Each LNB has 2 coax cables for a total of 4 coax cables. I feed two of the coax cables to a Captiveworks 700 which is working perfectly and the other 2 coax cables to another Captiveworks 700 and can only pick up satellite 110. I'm getting very low signal and 0 quality on 119. My settings are as follows:

Satellite………….Echo 6.8 (110 W)
Transponder……..12224
LNB Freq………..11250
LNB Type………..Normal
22 Khz……………Off
Diseq……………..LNB 2
Legancy SW……...Off
Motor…………….None

Satellite………….Echo 7 (119 W)
Transponder……..122XX ( I can't remember but it is the default in program)
LNB Freq………..11250
LNB Type………..Normal
22 Khz……………Off
Diseq……………..LNB 1
Legancy SW……...Off
Motor…………….None

I've tried several different disque switches with no luck. If I run the 110 coax directly to receiver with no switch, I get good strength and quality. If I run 119 coax directly to receiver - low strength and 0 quality - so I don't think it's the switch. I also hooked up a Coolsat 6100 to the same set up and get the same weak signal on 119. This receiver was working fine picking up both sateliites until a week ago. I've checked and double checked the fittings at the TV, disque switch, and outside - I've even replaced one fitting outside that had a little corrosion. The only fittings I have not inspected are on the 3rd story roof at the dish which I do not have access to. I do have a long run - approximately 125 feet - but I was getting good strength and quality on both sateliites in the past. My question is - can I eliminate the possibility of a bad LNB because the other CW700 is working fine. Can one side of an LNB go bad and the other side work?

Other things I've tried are : turn auto transponder on and off, reload v 1.65 software, rescan satellites, change transponder frequency up and down 5 points, ground system, install in line signal boosters. I'm at the end of my rope. I may have to buy a new dish and install it where I can work on it and run new wiring because I believe my problem has to be in the coax or fittings on that one line.

Over 100 ft. of run is not advisable and can cause problems like this, even if they werent persistant in the past. It is also possible your DIsh could have been nudged or the LNB casing attached to the arm could have moved out of focal point. If you want to keep that long run either use rg11 (expensive) or try an in-line amp which i usually dont prefer but you might not have anyother choice other than a powered switch. Also with the legacy you need a sw44 or sw64 switch to expand those LNB's, you cannot use DN switches they will not work.

Yes I know runs over 100 feet spell trouble. I'm going to try to reduce it to 75 feet and add the in line signal booster back in. I am using RG6 currently and I am not using any DN switches, just a zinwell 4 X 1 disque switch.. If all else fails, I'll install a new dish with new LNB's and new wire that is accessable. Thanks for you input..

do you have trees close to your dish that could be blocking your signal.

Dishman606 - no trees - clear view of all satellites. Thanks

most generally when one side of a dual legacy goes bad or shorts out the lnb will be bad on both connections.

Thanks for the suggestions. I reexamined all my cable and connections and could not find my problem. Since I had one receiver working, I decided to switch the coax cables from the 119 LNB and see if I continued to get low strength and quality on the receiver working good. I can not explain the results - now both receivers are working good and receiving both satellites. I can only assume that I somehow got a better connection when I switched the cables - but all is good now. Thanks.
