With the eBox Stealth HD it is very easy to update the software. Although there is a serial port for use with a computer and serial cable, I've never heard of ANYONE needing to use the loader program and serial cable. Here's the easiest way to upgrade your software that will work most (if not all) of the time.

1. Download latest software from your favorite NORW site. Make sure you are getting software for the eBox Stealth HD (not the Apache or Mimic models, which are also still working great for standard definition).

2. Locate the ZIP file that you just downloaded. Put a USB flash drive in your computer's USB port. Open the ZIP file (Windows XP, Vista, and MacOS X you can just click/open the file). Copy the file in the ZIP folder to the TOP of your USB flash drive (just drag it to the USB flash drive icon). Make sure you delete all the old SGN files on your USB flash drive first, or else it will be difficult to select the latest file on the box.

3. Use the Eject or Remove Hardware function on your computer to close the drive. Remove the drive from your computer.

4. From your Stealth HD receiver being off (by the switch on the back), power it on by the back switch. After it goes through the loader routine, ensure that the soft power is on (you get video on your TV).

5. Place the USB flash drive in the Stealth's USB port. My friend uses a USB extension cable to bring the port to the front. He is planning to mount a new port in the front of the machine for easier access, I will do a writeup on that after he does it and I get some pictures.

6. After a couple seconds, the system will recognize that a software update is on the drive and prompt if you want to upgrade. Select "YES", then select the bin file from the menu. It will test the file and if it is good, it will prompt you to continue update. After you select that, just wait a couple minutes (you will be told to keep the USB connected). The box will reboot and come up with the new bin file.

7. Remove the USB flash drive (if you want). I recommend using it if you aren't using it, some drives use a lot of power and can affect your reception by underpowering your LNBF or switch.

8. If you get "No Signal", just double check your antenna settings to make sure the LNBF types are correct (some software updates can affect this setting). You just need to correct it, no need to rescan channels.

All done!
