thanks to "byungjaykim" C&P

I have a big dish that I use for "true" Free-to-Air reception on C-band and Ku-band satellites. It's attached to the Coolsat 8000 as DISEQC addresses 3 (C-band) & 4 (Ku-band). I also have two Dish 500 dishes with DP-Twin LNB's, one Dish 500 is pointed at 82/91 and the other is pointed at 110/119. These are connected to my Coolsat 8000 through an Ecoda 22 kHz switch (the 82/91 LNB is attached to the 0 kHz input and the 110/119 LNB is attached to the 22 kHz input). The Ecoda 22 kHz switch is then attached to addresses 1 & 2 of my DISEQC switch. In this way, I can receive BEV, DISH, C-band, and Ku-band all on one receiver. I have a total of 20 "Dish" settings defined, 1 through 4 are devoted to BEV and DISH, the others are devoted to various C & Ku band satellites. I have a rotatable 7.5' dish for C & Ku band.

I was having lots of trouble with the EPG for DISH and BEV being lost whenever I would program in various transponders and dish settings for my C & Ku band dish. I would do an autoscan for 82/91/110/119 and everything would be fine. Then I'd add a bunch of dish settings and manually scan various transponders on my C/Ku band dish. After adding these C/Ku dish settings, my EPG would either partially or totally dissapear. It was very frustrating.

After a bunch of experimentation, factory resets, tearing my hair out etc, I found that I was actually "violating" one of the "rules" of programming the Coolsat 8000. I would define dish settings on the "Dish" menu. Then I would go over to the "Manual Scan" menu and just type in the settings (frequency, S/R rate, FEC) on that screen. Then, I'd scan and the channels would be found. I would NOT use the pre-defined transponder settings. Rather, I just typed in the proper settings on the "Manual Scan" screen.

THIS IS WHAT CAUSED THE EPG TO DISAPPEAR!!!!

In order to scan transponders that aren't already pre-defined by Coolsat (and when you're dealing with C & Ku band satellites, most of the stuff that's pre-defined is totally incorrect), you MUST define them on the "Dish" menu using the "New TS" menu item!!!! Then, after you've defined all of the new transponders on the "Dish" menu, you can go to the "Manual Scan" menu and scan the transponders that you've defined. NEVER EVER EVER MAKE CHANGES TO TRANSPONDER FREQUENCY, S/R, or FEC ON THE "MANUAL SCAN" SCREEN. THIS WILL ALWAYS DESTROY YOUR EPG!!!!!!
