Bell's new cellphone network launches Wednesday
Monday, November 2, 2009 Bell Canada is launching its state-of-the-art cellphone network on Wednesday, a day ahead of its construction partner Telus. The company on Monday said its new High Speed Packet Access network will be capable of data transfer speeds up to 21 megabits per second and will cover 93 per cent of the population. The network, which was jointly built with rival Telus at a cost of $1 billion, will also be compatible with the majority of networks around the world and will be able to accommodate popular devices such as Apple's iPhone. Few existing devices — including the iPhone — are capable of achieving the sorts of speeds the network is capable of, however. Telus had previously announced it will launch its portion of the network, as well as the iPhone, on Thursday. Bell will also carry the iPhone but did not specify whether it would launch in conjunction with the network. Neither company has announced monthly pricing on the popular gadget. Bell has announced several devices for the new network, including the BlackBerry Bold 9700, the Samsung Omnia II, the Nokia 6350 and 2730, and the Novatel U999 Turbo Stick and MiFi 2372 mobile hotspot. The move begins the two companies' transition to the GSM and HSPA wireless standards, which most cellphone providers in the world use. Bell and Telus currently use a different standard, CDMA, which is being phased out in most parts of the world. The duo's main rival, Rogers, has been rolling out 21-megabit speeds since the summer. The company has also had the iPhone in its arsenal since last year and has been running away with the wireless market. Rogers has about 8.4 million subscribers, versus Bell's 6.5 million and Telus's 6.2 million. Several new cellphone companies will begin operations in the next few months and they are expected to roll out state-of-the-art networks as well. Bell and Telus said their network launches come months ahead of schedule.

On a side note.
If anyone is looking for a plan that they want super cheap than have a look at the 711 stores package. Its called "SpeakOut" and is available in both Canada and U.S.A. It uses the Rogers line so coverage is huge I use my phone very little. I wanted it for Emerg and so my work can reach me. Its a pay as you go BUT!!! Whatever amount you want put into it, you have 365 days to use it up. $20.00 and up. If you still don't use up the amount than you can simply top it up. Last year the plan cost me $80.00. For the Entire year. Shit is that cheap. Just don't expect any internet capabilities. Its mainly talk or text

Why SpeakOut?
You wouldn’t pay for food you don’t eat. Or clothes you don’t wear. So why pay for calls you don’t make? Introducing 7-Eleven SpeakOut, the wireless plan that’s no plan at all. Buy the phone. Buy the time. Start talking. And texting. No monthly bills. No contracts. No commitments. No strings attached. SpeakOut controls costs. You buy airtime in convenient increments – get what you need; get more when you need more. It’s good for one full year. Finally, SpeakOut is exclusive to 7-Eleven. So you can depend on it. Absolutely. So, you want wireless that’s simple? Get SpeakOut. Only at 7-Eleven. Because the best plan is no plan at all. Who should SpeakOut? Well, practically anyone. With SpeakOut, you pay only for what you use, which is particularly good for students, families, seniors and anybody who’s on a budget. So who should get SpeakOut? Hey, who shouldn’t? How to SpeakOut? This is the easiest part of all. Just come to any 7-Eleven. Buy a SpeakOut phone (it comes with 20 minutes worth of airtime). And start talking. And texting. Believe it or not, that’s it. And when you’re ready to get more airtime, come back to any 7-Eleven.

Well believe it or not, Canada in Internet and Cell phone technology is way behind many other countries. I remember Rogers rep was answering comments, when was told in Philippines (considered a 3rd world country , no offense) citizens pay bills and their shopping and etc with cell phones, responded those people have no choice as there are lack of bank branches.
I believe he never been out of Canada, to give such an stupid excuse. for less than $60 in Asia you get over 700 GB (not everyone download porn or pirated movie) and you can watch TV online (stream), here we stuck with stupid programming by cable which is extremely over priced. on the basic programming the amount of advertising is more than the program itself, and it is ridicules when compared to the price we are paying. Yes they have to make money, but should not reduce the quality or trying to get richer over night. And they are told to upgrade their system we are told "Canadian consumers are not ready for it".
