Dish Network axing 37 more jobs at McKeesport call center

Dish Network Corp. said today it plans to eliminate 37 more jobs at its McKeesport call center, which the satellite television programming provider said it intends to close in March, according to a notification filed with the state.
Dish Network intends to move 37 dispatching jobs in January to a call center in Pine Brook, N.J., according to a notice filed with the state. These jobs are in addition to about 600 customer service jobs Dish Network said last week will be lost when the McKeesport center closes in March.
Dish said it decided to move the jobs after an analysis determined it could relocate those jobs to the call center in northern New Jersey "based on growth considerations in the McKeesport dispatch location," the letter stated. The company did not offer the state an explanation of those "growth considerations" and a spokeswoman declined to comment further.
Workers in the dispatch jobs communicate with Dish Network installers, scheduling installation of satellite service for customers, said spokeswoman Francie Bauer. The company is offering workers in those jobs the opportunity to submit a request to transfer to other jobs in the Dish Network, but the job placement is not automatic, the company's letter said.
The McKeesport call center is scheduled to close on March 5, which will eliminate about 600 customer service jobs, Bauer said. That announcement was made on Nov. 10.
Work done by the 600 customer service representatives at the McKeesport center, which concentrated on customer service and technical issues faced by customers, will be spread across the company's remaining 12 call centers, Bauer said.
